CTSA Athlete Pre-Race Physical Examinations Guidelines
I. Necessity of Physical Examinations
1. Triathlon involves long distances, high intensity, and unstable environments, placing extreme physiological stress on various bodily systems. It may lead to acute injuries or illnesses, primarily affecting the cardiovascular, respiratory, central nervous, gastrointestinal, and musculoskeletal systems, with severe cases posing life-threatening risks.
2. Due to the unpredictability of acute medical incidents, comprehensive physical examinations, evidence-based health monitoring, proactive injury prevention, and the establishment of health records are essential. Good physical condition is the foundation for triathlon participation. Engaging in the sport while injured or ill increases health and safety risks.
3. To maximize athlete safety and adopt a "preventive-first" approach, these guidelines are established. Athletes who fail to undergo required medical examinations or whose results do not meet the following standards will be disqualified from competition.
II. General Requirements
1. Pre-race Physical Examination
Athletes must assess their health and fitness status and undergo a Physical Examinations at a Tier 2A or higher hospital no earlier than six months before the event.
2. Self-Monitoring
A normal pre-race check only reflects the selected metrics and cannot fully exclude underlying risks or guarantee safe race completion due to the variability of human physiology. Therefore, athletes must:
1) Ensure they are in good health before the race, free from conditions such as colds, fever, viral/bacterial infections (e.g., tonsillitis, pharyngitis, gastroenteritis), or other acute/chronic injuries.
2) Continuously monitor their condition during the race. If experiencing symptoms (e.g., chest pain, palpitations, nausea, difficulty breathing, extreme fatigue), they must immediately withdraw and seek medical assistance.
III. Required Items
The following tests are designed to address common triathlon-related acute conditions:
1. General Internal/Surgical Examination (All Athletes)
Focus on screening for:
1) Cardiovascular diseases (e.g., hypertension, valvular disease, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy).
2) Neurological disorders (e.g., epilepsy, severe neurasthenia).
3) Family history of sudden cardiac death.
4) History of exercise-induced acute injuries/illnesses.
5) Respiratory diseases (e.g., allergic asthma, acute/chronic respiratory infections).
6) Active gastrointestinal conditions (e.g., peptic ulcers).
2. Blood Pressure (Athletes Aged 13+)
1) <50 years: Systolic ≤130 mmHg (17.3 kPa), diastolic ≤85 mmHg (11.3 kPa).
2) ≥50 years: Systolic ≤140 mmHg (18.6 kPa), diastolic ≤90 mmHg (12 kPa).
3. Electrocardiogram (ECG) (All Athletes)
Reports must be physician-diagnosed. Disqualifying abnormalities include:
1) Normal ECG (confirmed by hospital with no significant abnormalities):

7. I authorize the CTSA and the Organizing Committee to use my portrait rights, free of charge, in any context related to the triathlon sport or this event. 8. I agree to comply with the decisions of the Organizing Committee regarding any changes, postponements, or cancellations of the event due to force majeure or other objective reasons, and will not request refunds for any fees paid or compensation for any losses incurred as a result of my inability to participate for personal reasons.
